online sessions

The Batting Doctor uses a secure and simple on-line teaching platform called Talent LMS. This allows us to deliver a broad range of sessions including:

  • Fundamentals of skill development
  • Anticipation and perceptual skills
  • One-on-one and small group coaching
  • Personalised training programs

Talent LMS sessions are delivered through a variety of methods including online interactive talks, blogs, recordings of conversations with experts, discussions on factors affecting performance, ‘hot topics’, and question and answer sessions to test your knowledge.

Talent LMS allows you to up load footage of yourself and/or your team on to the platform and then participate in interactive sessions where we can analyse and discuss options to improve your performance.

Visual - Perceptual Training

In fast ball sports such as cricket batting, the total response time or the combination of reaction time measures how long it takes an individual to process information and prepare to initiate a movement.

The movement time is often greater than the total time available to make the response, known as a temporal or time constraint.

Total response time ~ 800ms (Reaction time + motor response)
Ball Travel time ~ 450ms – Ball release to bat-ball contact.

Visual anticipation differentiates elite and lesser skilled players and enables the capability to cope with high time constraints in striking sports. It is not the reaction time of the batter, more the organisation of the motor system that differentiates experts and lesser skilled batters.

Our research confirms previous findings demonstrating that experts are much more attuned to the use of advance visual cues to anticipate and move the lower body into a better position to strike the ball, whereas the lesser skilled rely mostly on ball flight information to achieve this.

We will teach you how to improve your perceptual-motor skill which is a vital component of the effective decision-making process when selecting appropriate stroke to play, and how to attain better body and bat positioning to execute the chosen shot.

Our training methods, based upon our proven research (see peer reviews) are cutting edge and lead the world in this essential training that is necessary to complete the skillset of the modern-day cricketer. Our methods link the visual and motor systems through implementation of training methods that will challenge you as well as accelerate the development of your skillset.

Our Training Programs are Suitable for One to One and Group Cricket Coaching.

Baseline (Pre-Test) Analysis

We scientifically analyse your current level of expertise and supply you with a detailed report before discussing recommended training and development strategies.

We will charge you (AUD $19.97) for your initial baseline test and give you a comprehensive report on how well you accurately predict the type of ball a bowler is bowling to you, under conditions where you receive controlled, differing amounts of video footage.

After we have established your current level of visual anticipation skill through the baseline test (takes around 10 mins to complete), we will begin your training.

Firstly, you will undertake an education session via Talent LMS that gives you some background about visual anticipation and why it is important. This session will last around 40 mins, be interactive and a short test of your knowledge will be conducted at the end of the session. An example of the questions would be ‘Why is Visual Anticipation important in fastball striking sports?’

The next stage of the training will be a free 8 session training program where you will be required to watch video footage and at various points in the bowler’s action, we will control how much vision you see and ask you to provide answers on what ball type you think the bowler is bowling. Each session will last around 10 mins and you will be asked to provide your answers in a written format.

The last stage of the initial training will be a post-test that shows your improvement between your baseline results and your results after undertaking the training sessions. This will give you personal experience of how visual anticipation can be trained as we will you with statistical, graphical evidence of your improvement.

We will then discuss your results with you and make recommendations on the perceptual training suitable for your development.
